Stun gun shock to head may cause seizures, doctors warn

A police officer who was mistakenly hit in the head by a stun gun suffered seizures, Canadian doctors reported on Monday.

The officer was in his 30s and previously in good health. He was hit by a Taser shot meant for a suspect involved in a police chase, Dr. Richard Wennberg and coauthors from Toronto Western Hospital and the University of Toronto reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

First we have the RCMP telling us that tasers “can cause death in acutely agitated suspects.”

Now the Police Association has come out saying “Tasers Save Lives”.

When are they going to make up their mind?

I’ll tell you one thing…I know the Police Association is responsible for harassing me at home on my phone with donation requests. I’d take anything they say with a grain of salt.

As far as I’m concerned these new limits should have been in place from day one. Police need to stop reaching for a taser every time someone looks at them sideways.

14 Year Old Mentally Disabled Girl Tasered, Lawsuit Says

The father of a 14-year-old girl from Northwestern Ontario is suing the Ontario Provincial Police after his daughter was shocked with a taser.

A statement of claim alleges two officers used the device on the girl after she was told to stop scratching at the paint inside a jail cell in Sioux Lookout, Ont.

The lawsuit, filed Jan. 23 in Ontario Superior Court in Kenora, says that the officers entered the cell without warning, “violently” pulled the girl to the ground and applied the taser.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

The girl, identified in the lawsuit as having “mental disabilities,” cannot be identified because she is a minor.

Her family is seeking $500,000 in damages.

Opposition Parties Urge Taser Ban for RCMP

The Canadian government is finally getting its act together in regards to tasers. They see that these are indeed deadly weapons and their use needs to be restricted to cases where a person assaults the police or public or poses a serious risk of death or harm. No more tasing someone for speeding or just for the hell of it.

Well, at least that is what the opposition parties are trying to do. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if their recommendations are accepted.

No Charges Laid In Taser Death

You might remember the polish immigrant who died after being tased at the Vancouver airport.

We today it is official, there will be no charges laid against the RCMP officers that tased him. His family must be outraged.
